Da Da-Da Daaaa: Introducing The Lionel Corporation
On 1/1/09 MTH posted the official press release (XX1) announcing The Lionel Corporation. The release states:
Electric Trains and M.T.H. Electric Trains will spawn Lionel
Corporation products that offer hobbyists the most accurate tinplate
reproductions ever produced and an expanding product line that will
include the most iconic products of the tinplate era."
I especially love this part:
See and Hear ‘Em in Action
our Product Search feature. Simply search for the item, then scroll
down the item page for photos and a link to the video.
Not sure why there wouldn't be a dedicated website for the Lionel Corporation products but anyway what exactly is the "Product Search Feature"? UPDATE: There will be a dedicated site see below. The Product Search feature mentioned above is hopefully clearly indicated on the new site so you can disregard my rant for now.
Is it the Product Locator link in the left sidebar of the MTH site, the Product Keyword Search in the banner, is it the Video link in the left sidebar, will I need to manually click through the catalog in the current catalog section hoping that it's posted there or maybe I'll have to dig for the Product Search Feature in some nested menu in the links along the top of the page (like the link to the one thing that sets MTH apart, their DCS technology)?
As I'm writing this post, a link to the licensing agreement in the press release results in a "The page cannot be found". What a joke. There is another press release (XX2) announcing the January release of The Lionel Corporation's new tinplate catalog. You can find the release here. Again, as I'm writing this post the MTH website is super slow so you may need a lot of patience.
Here's a thought, the look and feel of Lionel's new home page isn't bad so maybe MTH can contract Lionel to create a new look and feel for the MTH website while MTH concentrates on manufacturing trains.
UPDATE 1/3/09: It seems there will be a dedicated site after all and it was on-line for a brief period on 1/1 but then taken down. MTH did acutally indicate a dedicated site will be created in their press release announcing the licensing agreement with Lionel. (my editor (me) forgot about that fact)
"A Web site, dedicated to the new product line, will also offer product
videos, sound clips and other information not available in print
catalogs."
Not sure why they didn't specifically announce that fact more clearly in the press releases announcing The Lionel Corporation and the availability of the new catalog.
According to Joshua over a Prewar Times, the new site indicated that the "contemporary" versions of the Tinplate trains will have MTH's DCS operating system.
