GUEST BLOGGER Mike Spanier: American Model Toys

AMT (American Model Toys) started in 1948 in Fort Wayne,
Indiana. Jack Ferris had a dream. Could he possibly create a company to offer
toy trains for which he felt the market was ready? Would he be able to challenge
the Big Dogs - Lionel? American Flyer? Marx? Jack felt he could make
his way into the market. What happened?

Well, the very first streamlined Aluminum passenger cars were his
first innovation and were a spectacular hit. He caught Lionel asleep at the
switch. Next, he came out with a series of scale like box cars in
popular and attractive road names. Well, he beat Lionel to the market with
the Aluminum passenger cars and his scale like box cars pushed Lionel
into their 6464 series. Many feel the AMT cars are still of equal
appearance. These were big successes ………in the
beginning.

How does AMT fit in this saga? What about AMT (Auburn Model
Trains? Kusan? KMT(Kris Model Trains)? What about Williams? Is that a part?
The story is everything but simple. All are linked together. How does the
Ready Made Beep fit in? How did Mike Wolf fit in? You know him….he owns
MTH.

We have just started a new Yahoo group, as of Feb 29 (leap year day), to
talk about this interesting and important group of trains and their
impact.

Who hasn’t see the familiar white boxes filled with Kris Box Cars?
You see them if you look hard at most every toy train show. Have you ever seen
the Kusan space set? It is all part of the story.

Take a look at the cover page of our group for a great photo:

Our BRAND NEW group (linked above) addresses all these areas with
loads of photos.

In addition, we have 2 sister groups which have been established for years.
First is our Super "O" Group and our next is the FasTrack Group. Both are loaded
with information about there respective products. They are linked below:

All our groups are product focused. Take a look and if they tickle
your fancy come on along for the ride! We welcome your
participation.
