Train Shops in the Southern New Jersey Area
Living in Southern New Jersey, I have visited most of the train shops in the South Jersey/Philly metro area. If you will be vacationing down at one of the South Jersey Shore points (Atlantic City and south) and are looking to satisfy your model train fix on a rainy day here are my recommendations:
Nicholas Smith Trains
in Broomall, PA. About 1 1/2 hours outside Atlantic City but worth the
trip because of their very large selection of O Gauge. They have a nice
selection of used items plus an impressive selection of G, HO and N
scale and the biggest selection of K-Line I’ve seen in the
area . The K-Line items are located in the "toy" store on the first floor, the rest
of the trains are on the 2nd floor. The prices seem reasonable.
Holly Beach Train Depot
in Wildwood, NJ. About a 1/2 hour south of Atlantic City. A great
little shop and Larry, the owner, is a real nice guy. Been in the
business
for over 11 years. Larry is a big MTH fan and carries some neat locally
themed items. He is closed on Sundays. Only 3% NJ sales tax and his MTH
prices are very reasonable.
Antique Trains
in Turnerville, NJ - about an hour west of Atlantic City. The owner,
Rich is a real character and has been in the business for over 30
years. This is a quaint little store located in the bottom of Rich’s
house. He has three coin operated layouts, a G Scale along the ceiling,
one MTH and one Lionel. You park in the church parking lot across the
street from the
store. Prices are good.
Flyertown
(609-624-3173) is a nice S Gauge layout on Route 9 in Clermont, NJ.
This is a private collector’s layout that is has open to the public.
There is a small store as well. Admission is $2.50. This layout was
featured in the May 2005 issue of Classic Toy Trains.
Trains ‘N Things in Vineland, NJ. I haven’t shopped this store yet but heard some nice things about it so it may be worth checking out.
The South Jersey Railroad Museum
is another great place to visit in Tuckahoe, NJ. Admission is free but
donations are accepted. There is a very small train shop and four large 3 rail
layouts, a nice standard gauge layout and a 2 rail O Scale layout that
is under construction in the basement (you may have to ask to see it).
All are worth seeing. The museum is only opened on Wednesday’s and
Saturday’s.
If that’s not enough and you’re up for some additional exploring there are more shops listed here.
Enjoy

Big Model Train Store in Millville, NJ. He’s got the most I’ve seen anywhere. Specializes in older, collectible trains, all gauges & all makes. Even has Foreign trains & accessories. It’s called Antique Cars, Parts & Trains on Rt. #47.
